Hotel Tomo: Hotel for the Otaku

Rejoice for all of the Otaku traveling to San Francisco. There is a perfect place to stay for us. Hotel Tomo opened its door last June in SF's Japantown, one of my favorite place in SF. The hotel has been designed with modern interior mixed with Japanese pop art. It is teeming with bright and fun environment.

Each of the 125 rooms is equipped 6-inch LCD flat screen television, iPod docking station, yellow linens, bean bag chair, stuffed animal, Japanese lanterns, bathrobes and both wired and wireless high-speed connectivity. There is also the Players Suit with its bean bag chairs, 6-foot LCD projection screens, Sony PS3, Nintendo Wii and Wi-Fi. Individual rooms has different themes: e.g. Mecha. Artist Heisuke Kitazawa had been commission to create unique wall murals in each guest room. Although the Players Suit cost $500 (but can be rented for short events), their standard guest room starts at only $109. A good deal I say!

Another perk of patronage is the Kabuki Spring and Spa. You can experience Japanese style massage and also hop into their Japanese style bath.

While the idea of pop art hotel is not new, it is about time that one is erected in the U.S.; a Japanese one at that. And I think there is no perfect place other that San Fransisco's the Japantown.

I just stayed here a few weeks ago. It really is the best place to stay in SF. Just minutes away from any kind of restaurant and right in the heart of Little Osaka. The price is great and the rooms are much nicer than other hotels in SF. It's really close to the bus line that goes right downtown.
