Tell me to describe how I would spend my perfect summer break, and I will say be an otaku. Yes, that's right.
My daily schedule will consist of:sleep, shower, eat, design, watch some anime/japanese drama and read manga. Maybe I will go out to discover interesting Japanese finds. My family loves to travel, so I will definitely travel with them and try to find Japanese stuff.
My sister is living exactly just that in her last summer break of her undergrad years.
So, I accidentally woke up at 3:00 AM this morning and she was still wide awake; reading manga from her Mac laptop in the dark. (Note: Last year, my sister and I decided to share my room and converted her room into our mega walk in closet.) I fell back to sleep and woke up around 6:30 AM to get ready for work and I found....
Boys and girls, that's how a real otaku sleep. LOL. (I blurred her face, for privacy sake :) )
I am guessing she woke up around 10AM and continue reading manga and watch Japanese drama for the rest of the day. She has been doing this practically everyday since she returned home from school; between feeding times, showers nap time and occasional social outting to the real world.
I am not mocking her. I am envious. I just can't get over that despite her social character, being the founder of her sorority chapter an all, deep down inside she is an otaku like me. So cute!!
Otaku Hime is what I am, and my kawaii li'l sis is the rightful Chibi Otaku Hime.

A Japanese Tea House in an Unexpected Place
Among Cherry Blossom and Apple trees, hidden a tiny tea house built as a place to spend time friends over a cup of tea in spiritual tranquility, creating a mutual closeness.
It is the vision of David Maštálka when he built the tea house, located in Prague, Czech Republic. The location and the creator may be Czech, but the soul of the tea house is clearly Japanese. It is the embodiement of the Sen no Rikyú.
A house and dewed ground
Guest and host
Drinking together a cup of tea
In quiet contemplation
In spiritual symphony

The tea house has two section: an open platfrom and enclosed tea room. The platform can fit one person, and I imagine that it would be nice to sit in it in a nice breezy day with tea and a book (or some manga).

You can also sit around the hearth on the tatami floor accompanied with gentle rays which illuminates the room through the shoji screens and the paper pasted laminated dome roof. The hearth is a functional one; it utilizes a small gas stove. It might be too cold for prolonged use in the winter, but it is a beautiful backyard view.

Located in a beautiful natural sorrounding and designed with Japanese simplicity and minimalism with a Japanese soul and spirit, it can be mistaken for an authentic Japanese tea house.

Reasons Why the Otaku Hime Has Been Slow Again & Survey For You
If you have notice my post has been less frequent. It's because my real life work has been 'upbeat' these days and I haven't been able to browse or make a new entry from my office PC. At home, I have been busy preparing a suprise for you guys: e.g. doing research for my new manga and drama pics. I am also working on a new layout for Otaku Hime. I thought that it is time to refresh the blog with a less girly layout. (I know the pink turns off many visitors)
In order to help me finish my tasks for the blog. I would like to ask everyone to complete an easy poll below, you may choose more than one :) Even though this blog was started in order to channel my otaku thoughts, but I am also writting for you all. I feel strongly that your opinion about Otaku Hime is very important.
6/29/09 If you have any other manga themes that you think I should turn into a list, please inform me through comments. :)
If you have any inputs/thoughts/complaints that would require a paragraph or two to express, please email me at absolutvanny-at-gmail.
Thank you :)

Sweet Art of Katogi Mari Illustration

Katogi Mari illustrations are so sweet, dreamy and pretty. You can find many paintings and digital illustration based on western fairy tales.

Even though her art themes are mostly western, but her style definitely radiates Japanese femininity.

Regardless of our art style differences, she is the newest source of my adoration and inspiration. I definetely would like to have some of her paintings hangings on my wall.

Sick Day Food Play Part I: Matcha Cookies
Summer break is here! Well not for me~ But for my li'l sis. Rejoice! She is back from school. I am very close with my sister, despite the 5 year gap. I have been quite lonely, so it was great having her at home.
Me and my sister loves cooking and baking. Actually, she concluded that we love playing with food. Tastespotting.com really is our food porn. We were browsing it a week ago or so and found delicious looking matcha cookies recipe. I immediately purchased matcha powder after work.
We didn't make the cookies until last Tuesday. I was not feeling good, and I decided to take a sick day. My sister stayed at home with me and the day turned into a food playtime. I sprayed the pans, sprinkle sugar on top of the cookie dough, take pictures and make sweet comments. My sister did everything else. Hey! I was sick.

The cookies turned out quite well. Next time I would make the cookie cutouts a bit thicker and use a bit more powder sugar. My sister ended up using a bit less than half of the matcha powder in the can to make the green tea aroma stronger. I am thinking about finding another matcha powder brand. The one we used was a bit pricy; equivalent of US$30. I think I would use it to drink instead. If we ever get around to make the second batch, shall inform you.
